Your child is born, or your project, or your relationship. It’s like being given a seed. You don’t know what it’s going to grow into. All you know is that it needs water, earth, sun… and love.
Maybe you’re an apple tree. When you’re given a seed, it might be for a dandelion, or a pear tree, or a rose bush. It’s silly that we assume it’s going to grow into an apple tree. We just don’t know.
We have to let it grow into What It Wants To Be, and not try to dictate to it What We Think It’s Supposed To Be. Then we’re not constantly disappointed with what it becomes, but cheerful, excited.
I’ve heard that a man can’t actually create a fire, he can only create the conditions that allow the fire to burn. No one ever said they wanted a fire to burn differently. They were too busy enjoying it.
In the same way, if we create the right conditions and then stand back, we get to wonder at the marvelously unique way things grow into themselves, whatever that might be.
